Who am I?
Born on the frozen tundra of central Minnesota…
Standing 5 feet 12 inches tall; he has some scruff when he’s clean shaven, 3 Snowboards, 2 dogs, and way too many cameras for the likes of his wife. He was born in Minnesota close to his mother at an early age, schooled at Minnehaha Academy and again too many secondary education institutions for his wife’s liking.
Starting as a photographer’s assistant schlepping gear, loading bulk 120mm into medium format backs and packing vans to start his career. Growing in his skill and experience, he started shooting for himself. Eventually setting his emerging photography business aside to join the Marines at the outset of the war. After almost a decade of conflict, two wars and 5 duty stations, Aaron left the Marines having a skill set of delivering evocative imagery in the most extreme environments with speed and efficiency. Now he set his sites on returning to commercial photography in the fall of 2012.
In 300 words or less…
Aaron Belford (°1978, Edina, United States) is an artist who works with photography and cinematography. By questioning the concept of movement, Aaron finds that movement reveals an inherent awkwardness, a humor that echoes our own vulnerabilities. The artist also considers movement as a metaphor for the transient nature of life.
His photos isolate the movements of humans and/or objects. By doing so, new sequences are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and sound. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, he plays with the idea of the mortality of an artwork confronted with the power of a transitory appearance, which is, by being restricted in time, much more intense.
His works are made through strict rules which can be perceived as liberating constraints. Romantic values such as ‘inspiration’, ‘genius’ and ‘authenticity’ are thereby neutralized and put into perspective. By applying a wide variety of contemporary strategies, he tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
His works never show the complete structure. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality. Aaron Belford currently lives and works in Minneapolis.
We understand that the human brain is an amazing pattern recognition device. Because of this, we use the human body’s own physiology to deliver your visual message by accurately replicating the way we see the world during distinct emotional events. This is the basis for my photographic method.

“Fast, Efficient and Precise. That’s the best way I can describe working with Aaron Belford. He works at a pace that I have rarely seen and able to capture action faster than anyone around. Because of this speed, he’s able to get more accomplished in a short amount of time and thus making productions more economical for us. But you may worry about how accurate he is with being so fast and so efficient. But his precision is second to none rarely missing out on any necessity needed.”
